Wired router is equipment to connect many wired networks, can transfer data among wired networks with high speed, can control data flow and access rights. Wired router functions similar to to wireless router, but its main connection method is wire but not wireless network. Wired router main function is to distribute IP address to different networks, so that different computers can share public networks, besides this, wired router also has network management and safety function, for example firewall, VPN, port forwarding, packet filtering etc.. Wired router normally used in enterprises, schools, public institutions, organizations, and other places which need high speed data transfer and safety management.

Wired router working principle as follow steps:

Receive packet: when wired router receive packet from outside, it can receive it through WAN port.

Judge destination address: wired router can judge where to deliver the packet according to every packet’s destination address.

Routing and forwarding: wired router can forward the packet to internal network according to internal routing list, so that the equipments in internal network can get the packet.

NAT convert: wired router will perform Network Address Translation(NAT) on sender’s IP address before sending packet to destination equipment, so that sender’s IP address can be identified and replied after forwarded.

Send packet: wired router send packet to destination equipment with internal switch or switch port, destination equipment can deal and reply the packet.

Network management: wired router has some network management functions, such as change the password, limit number of users, port forwarding etc.

High speed and stable: wired router transfer data with wire, transfer speed is high and stable, wired router transfer speed is higher than wireless router in same network environment.

High security: wired router connection method is wire, comparing with wireless router it is more difficult to be hacked or interfered by hackers, so it win advantages in safety area.

Simple configuration: wired router configuration is very simple, can start to use after connectting all eqipments in local area network with wired router. Comparing with wireless router, wired router configuration is more simple, no need to consider wireless encryption problem.  

Support high load: wired router can connect many equipments in same time, support high load data transmission.

Economical and practical: wired router cost is lower than wireless router, so you can use wired router to build networks for some areas hasn’t too high requirements for wireless coverage.
